Summit Ave. photo set. Looking across marsh towards Center |
Description |
Overlooking section from marsh to near McGee's Corner. Note two houses in distance at right are still standing on Pleasant St. near Sargent St. Winthrop St. at the right middle distance.
(The set of photos which include, file Nos. 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 [and 32] were identified by Sidvin Tucker, Town Historian. The following text was written by Mr. Tucker. These views of Winthrop were taken from about a point near the Summit of what is now Summit Avenue in 1868 for the city of Boston, which was at that time proposing to maintain an Insane Hospital on the Summit Avenue Hill. The proposition was abandoned. See plan for approximate territory covered by each view.) |
