Description |
The Cottage Parks Hotel's commanding position afforded a panoramic view of Boston Harbor, the islands and Boston proper. Mr. Orlando Belcher owner and manager was born here in Winthrop in 1844. He had started in the leather business at the age of 16, purchased the leather business at the age of23 and continued in this business for 15 years. In 1875 he became an inventor and as a result developed the "Belcher Cartridge Loader", a well-known idea in the 1870's. As a result he achieved great financial success and as a hobby he began buying and developing Winthrop real estate. The Cottage Park's promotional lure outlined its unique commutable distance to Boston and as a result allowed families to enjoy a longer summer vacation.
